Merida recently went on a quest to try and procure the spire 6 site for the Red Hand, after being approached by Diarmuid and John, and while she didn't claim the territory (she beat Cesare but lost the battle when hers were overwhelmed, still being played out), I feel like she would have joined afterwards anyway. She's also Diarmuid's adopted daughter and is interested in looking into a third option and what she can unlock wrt her shard. With magic, she knows Cu's runes (expert level) and is going to learn Blizzard magic from Riku, and as a princess has been taught how to negotiate and be diplomatic.
