[Javik normally detested the dictated text function, but right now, he was too tired. Not enough sleep, and too much time spent walking in someone else's dreams. He took advantage of the faceless communication for once.]
Occasionally. Our enemy concentrated on cities, places with dense population. This was usually not forests.
[He'd said it out loud, so the locket picked it up even if he hadn't meant it be part of the conversation. She knows, and that's why she's asking.]
In a few days I am leaving to scout the Forodwaith north of Loch Noa. If the land presents natural defenses, use them. Fortify them if you can, destroy them if they can be used against you.
[ Just like last year, Javik gets some cash money. This year, he also gets two collars for the varren and a note saying they're enchanted for protection. ]
[And just like last year, there's no thank you card. The next time Ariadne sees one of the varren with their collar, it might look a little chewed up...]
We spoke on the second to last day of Samhain and I've given your description to some of the imps that come and go from the construction of Caer Scima. They assured me they knew who you were and that you were 'of the Unseelie'. I don't really care about what court lays claim to your shard, but I'm hoping their enthusiam means this will get to you safely.
I wanted to thank you for your words when I could barely see or stand the sound of any voice. I know I thanked you then, but I think I should do so again. Of all the people I spoke to during Samhain, you were the only one that spoke so clearly of what alcohol could and would do to a person.
I'm sorry if I bothered you at the Pool of Souls. But I want to thank you for speaking to me there, too. And for allowing me to keep you company even if it was for a short time.
I've been told that there is a tradition in this world where people are supposed to give gifts to friends and family during the Yule Celebration. I'm not really familiar with it, there is nothing similar in my world. I don't exactly understand the point of it being a specific day, either. When people want to give gifts to friends and family in my world, they simply do so.
But I've arrived in a small town on the southern coast and it has a fine book shop with well made journals and when I was looking at them, I remembered our conversation at the Pool of Souls. You said to me something about how if I didn't move on from what I'd lost, I'd eventually get myself killed. Something like that. Mostly, I remember how resigned and sad you sounded. Like you'd lost something as important to you as what I have lost is to me. And I thought that maybe you could use something to help you find peace.
So I wrote down some things that help me find a center, a balance. Meditation techniques, breathing techniques - and I'm sorry if they aren't as helpful to you as they are to me. I don't know how breathing works for you. If the rhythm is the same as a human's - that sort of thing.
It only takes up the first twenty pages, so you can use the rest to write down your thoughts. Memories and feelings you want to save or are having trouble working through.
I hope your winter has been a good one so far and that the new year brings with it a measure of peace.

[Included with the letter is a wood-bound journal with several brushes and quill-style pens attached to the front cover with leather straps and a small bottle of ink on the side.]
I hope your winter went well enough. I spent mine in a small town on the Aghmhor coast. Though there was a short trip to one of the Spires in February. It was the one held by Baron Damon Salvatore. I don't like him.
That's not what this letter is about, though. I don't know if my notes on meditation have helped you at all, but I thought that if you were still struggling, maybe something else could help: A proper cup of tea.
When I first arrived in this world last February, it didn't take me long to realize that no one in this world seemed to have a proper teapot with which to make decent tea. It's all been pretty horrible. But that changed this winter! I met a man name El-Melloi II who runs a Coffee House that also serves tea and he, too, lamented the fact that there weren't any good teapots. But he didn't know how to make a good one. Together, we found a potter that could do the job and now there are more than a few decent teapots in the world.
I sent along some flavors of tea that I like and which help calm me for meditation. I hope you'll like them, too.

[Accompanied with the letter is a simple, but sturdy tea set. Along with three differentteaflavors (and enough of each to brew tea daily for a week). There is also hand-written instructions on how to properly brew the tea.]
You and a +1 are invited to the opening of The Oasis. The Grand Opening will be on the 26th and will last until the 28th. Come prepared. Accommodations available in town or the Spire. Consider it part of the VIP treatment.

[When the monarchs returned and started to so strictly enforce the court divides, Diarmuid had feared that he might have to abandon the neutral path he had put so much into. Now, as he sits looking at the ring Alyosha gave him and thinking about the Red Hand, he can't help but realize just how much of a gift the Red Hand has been. He would have preferred to have Alyosha here with them, of course, but at least he, John, and Javik still have each other to reach out to for support.
Just like right now. Diarmuid has a task that he thinks Javik will be perfect for and it doesn't matter to him that Javik is technically Unseelie. No, it is more important that Javik is his fellow Commander in the Red Hand. Courts have no place in any of this.
A moment of concentration activates his ring and he sends a message along it to Javik.]
If you have a moment, Javik, there is something I would ask of you.
[It's a good thing this is text, because there's a lot of barking going on down in Caer Scima's kennels. Javik's latest boon, five new varren, were causing a bit of stir.]
[Though it might make it hard for them to hear each other, Diarmuid would not mind that much since he raised dogs when he first lived. He is used to their...squabbles.]
Do you have some time this month to come to Leathann? I need someone who I can trust to thoroughly map the island. Someone who can protect themselves should any of the residents who are left decide to cause trouble.
[ Delivered to both John and Javik is a bound series of notes and sets of runes, all left for them to unfold and read. When they do, they're in for a long narrative.
The first set of notes is a long list of runes and their uses, ranging from protective to dangerous, ritualistic and tracking. Some have notes that suggest their strength with blood, and others have minor annotations that say no more than they might be best used by a child, not for war. Each one is carefully written and scripted, drawn out with diagrams alongside to show the proper means of creating each one, where each line should go and in which order for the best effect.
The second set is a rather long and somewhat grotesque description of blood magic and it's uses in sealing and rune making, including how best to cut the skin, where on the body to place runes and how to use the blood itself properly in order to generate the most magic and effect. Lauralae describes it all from a rather stoic standpoint, as logically as possible, detailing the nature of blood, it's power and it's strength as part of a sacrifice to the world and it's magic.
Finally, there is a minor notation on seals and magic, describing, once more, how blood can be used as a sealant, how sacrifices can be made to empower such things and how runes tied together with blood, the more the better, can offer the greatest of power and strengths.
It's sighed with an L and a fingerprint left in blood. ]

All right. Who knows, maybe the trees will simply eat all of the Seelie before they get too close. But better to be prepared.
