MAJOR EVENTS Promotion Following his participation in the war and his work along the borders, Javik is given the title of Captain within the Unseelie army. Treun Javik attends the summer Tourney in Treun, and meets with the Governor again. Amunet Javik learns the secret of Vanessa's Ives possession during Samhain. | YEAR ONE | YEAR TWO | YEAR THREE
TIMELINE OF EVENTS SPRING IN 2,701 (Mar, Apr, May) | - MARCH - The new king of birds brings late snowstorms and a deep freeze to the Drabwurld. Visiting the ruins of Caer Scima, Javik travels with Katsa to assist refugees to the Third Tooth of Dorchadas. Javik visits Vanessa's spire, and once the snow has gone, he visits Damon and his sand worms. Maglor will be gone, having left Javik his magic ring and a shard-palantir. Javik is now the last of the Fellowship of Grumpy Old Men (and a Genie). Aragorn uses the shard-palantir to contact those that also have one.
- APRIL - Reul's Right Hand, The Winter King and Unseelie General Saber Alter recruits Javik as an officer in the military. Not one to let emotions get control of him, Javik will bust up that harp as soon as he realizes what's going on. Time not spent flipping out about harps will be used to continue patrolling Dorchadas.
- MAY - No more lockets or fairy rings or monarchs! Javik goes swan hunting, and racks up some cash to fund his travels. He stops in at the new trading post, meeting Vol'jin's brother-of-sorts, Thrall. At the Station he crosses paths with Midna, and they both head south together. Unfortunately, the road to Treun is awfully close to Seelie territories...

SUMMER IN 2,701 (Jun, Jul, Aug) | - JUNE - Javik attends, but does not participate in the tourneys at Treun. He reconnects with Effy, Ben and Hikaru, and meets Diarmuid and Katherine. Athame has her second litter of puppies in the city. Following the tourney he meets with Debal to discuss replacing Vridan's grave marker... and the governor gets to dogsit Prativ for awhile.
- JULY - Javik heads south to Leathann, and is entirely unaware of the hangings in Daonna until news reaches that far south.
- AUGUST - Leathann's Festival of Lights occurs during the second week. Javik attends and observes, and visits the Tower of the Oracle. While there's no obvious mark left behind by Vridan, the design of the tower is reminiscent of the architecture found on Feros and Eden Prime. Returning to the mainland, Javik teams up with Diarmuid to take down some rampant forest golems.
| |
FALL IN 2,701 (Sept, Oct, Nov) | - SEPTEMBER - Language is of no concern to him when people lose the ability to understand one another. He returns to Treun for the wreath festival, and is knee-deep in the resulting riots. 'Wish you were here' postcard material. Ben takes a look through Javik's eyes to check up on him, and Javik doesn't appreciate it.
- OCTOBER - Samhain! Javik meets Wan (twice), argues with Damon, gets drunk with Unseelie soldiers and the Brucolac, gets harassed by Effy and Archer and dances with Vanessa. He later returns to Vanessa's spire despite her warning against it.
- NOVEMBER - After Samhain, Javik makes his yearly trip to Loch Sluagh, to visit the grave of Vridan and replace the marker. Following this he will return to Dorchadas to pick up his duties in the Unseelie army.
| |
WINTER IN 2,701/2,702 (Dec, Jan, Feb) | - DECEMBER - Protheans may have evolved as hunters, but the White Hart gets the drop on him. Javik will be a bear for the remainder of the month.
- JANUARY - Travelling Dorchadas and/or a bear.
- FEBRUARY - Travelling Dorchadas. Javik catches up with Katsa at the third spire, Diasbaile.
| SPRING IN 2,702 (Mar, Apr) | - MARCH - The skeletons strike while Javik is at Damon's spire.
- APRIL - Missing fairies. Who cares.

gross
"The varren have killed five so far," he said, watching Prativ decide Brennan passed the test. Whatever test it might have been. "I have gotten two. They bite."
Not that they had teeth, but sometimes it was easy to forget that birds could be real assholes.
:'D
"Swans are surprisingly angry creatures. Did you know they can break a man's arm with their wings?" Now you do, Javik.
no subject
"Then we should break their wings first," he finally said, hefting his crossbow again. "I was following a herd of them south when they smelled your varren."
Herd, gaggle, flock, whatever.
no subject
"We might be able to get around them, then. Send the varren through the middle and close them off."
Or... something. She's never hunted swans before, but that sounds fine, right?
no subject
Javik nodded once, clicking to the varren until both parents were back at his side. He pointed south, and they took off. Minnie and Brennan could follow as they saw fit, but Javik deferred to Ariadne. His horse wasn't really meant to be ridden, anyways.
"You may lead, baroness."
no subject
"Do they drop feathers? Have you noticed?"
Straton seems to be following some sort of trail, but Ariadne isn't a great tracker -- she hasn't exactly had much experience.
no subject
"A few, yes. They do not turn to gold, however." He hadn't kept any feathers, either, because they were worthless to him. Despite being attached to meat, the varren couldn't eat them, and they weren't gaudy enough to replace his lost peacock mask. That was probably a good thing.
no subject
"I wonder if they're laying eggs." That could cause problems, and Ariadne makes a mental note to sweep through the forest again to look for them.
no subject
"Possible." Migratory flights pairing with mating season made sense, though he couldn't say he'd found any eggs. Did the nest in trees, or on the ground? Would they turn to gold, too? Maybe they just needed to kill the damn things faster. "I do not - "
Before he could finish that sentence, the tranquility of the forest was shattered when their rag tag pack plowed headlong into the swans. Dozens of the giant birds, panicked, flew in all directions. Javik sent out a biotic burst of energy, deflecting the ones that came right at them, sending them crashing through the trees. Snarling, he lifted his crossbow and shot down a few more.
Prativ came leaping through the underbrush, jaws snapping at a swan trying and failing to gain height. Maybe stirring them up was a little too effective.
no subject
Possible was good enough for now, seeing as there was a panicked swan and Straton had decided the best course of action was to pounce on it. Ariadne shouts in surprise, letting the bandersnatch happily maul the bird while the varren and Brennan chase them about with... little to no effectiveness.
Next time, she's finding canine(ish) companions that can herd.
Lifting a hand, she focuses on the shadows beneath the trees. They seem to come alive, trapping the swans that are in the shade as if they're more than just less light, as if they're some a black hole or quicksand. The birds struggle as shadows creep over them, refusing to let go.

Javik paused in his shooting, lowering the crossbow as Araidne's shadows slithered across the birds. He knew what she'd done when the shadows fell from the sky, knew what they called her and what they said about her at the battles on the plains. Actually seeing it was another thing altogether. It brought forth unpleasant memories, the long and dark fingers of a Reaper reaching out to strangle another star system. Our numbers will darken the sky of every world.
If there was one thing he was good at, though, it was shooting Reapers. Living in shadows hadn't bothered him in a long time. Javik lifted the crossbow again, and started picking off the trapped swans with surgical precision.
no subject
It isn't actually working too well, seeing as the next thing she does is rub her head in the feathers left behind, but he's doing his best.
no subject
Regardless of how well they had or hadn't done, the swans that hadn't flown past them were now glittering hunks of gold. Prativ went to see what Minnie was doing, and apparently decided that it was a great idea. For whatever reason, dogs from all worlds enjoyed rolling in their kills.
"Your power has grown," Javik said, nodding towards the twisting shadows.
no subject
Like father, like daughter. Minnie nudges Prativ's side before bounding toward another hunk of feathers, grabbing them in her mouth and growling playfully. Brennan huffs and ignores it, settling down to lick his paws while the shardbearers speak.
"This only works in La Llorona, for now, but I'm going to see if I can't change that," Ariadne says, nodding once before urging the shadows back to stillness, to spit up any of the golden swans that they had swallowed. "One of many projects that involves trying to make sense of magic."
no subject
Prativ took it as a challenge, rushing his pup and attempting to bowl her over in the process. If she had feathers, then he wanted feathers. Athame just looked on, glancing at Javik briefly for direction.
Javik slung the crossbow over his shoulder, moving forward to gather the fallen swans. He hesitated a fraction of a second before stepping into the shade. "Sense of it? It impossible to even know where to start."
